Katharyn Stuart Loweth
Katharyn is a junior ICS major with a concentration on Russia and Central Asia. She is also pursuing a minor in Education and a certificate in Child Policy Research. Katharyn spent the Fall 2017 semester in Prague, Czech Republic studying Russian, Russian culture and literature, and post-Cold War development of Central and Eastern European countries. Her academic interests include nation formation, particularly in Central Europe and Central Asia, and the ways that education systems can impact children’s formative ideas about their society and the world. While at Duke, Katharyn has focused on education research: she participated on the Bass Connections team “STEM for All”, and worked on a Data+ 2017 team examining particular major paths at Duke. After graduating in 2019, she hopes to pursue a further degree in Education or work at a nonprofit research organization.
