Are you a first-year student interested in ICS? You have many options for courses:
Start or continue study of a language appropriate to your regional area of interest. In almost all cases the ICS major requires four semesters of a single language.
Take an introductory level course from the approved ICS Comparative courses list.
Take a course that focuses on your primary regional interest. Check with the instructor to make sure the course is appropriate for first year students.
Participate in an internationally oriented Focus Program.
Beyond coursework you can do several other things to explore ICS:
Take advantage of the wealth of international opportunities on campus, including those offered through DukeEngage.
Join an internationally focused student group.
Develop a summer research project and apply for funding.
Schedule an informational session with the ICS Staff Assistant or Director of Undergraduate Studies to explore your interests and talk about opportunities.
